LA PUSH RESERVATION

"Boys are not stupid," Brayden said defensively, his dark eyebrows raised into perfect arches about his coal-colored eyes.

"They are when they think that girls can't do guy stuff." She said, dabbing some oil on his nose with her finger, grinning.

"That wasn't kind!" He said sarcastically, adjusting his hat so it was crooked. "I'll mess you up!" He tried to keep a poker face, but that was impossible considering the smile he was wearing.

"You wouldn't hit a girl." She said, rubbing the oil off her hands. She picked up her surfboard and stepped onto the sand. "Wanna come swimming?" She asked, staring out at the ocean.

He rubbed the oil off his nose and hesitantly agreed, following her out of the garage and yanking down the door as he left.

She once again stabbed her surfboard into the sand and unzipped her wetsuit, (yay! surfing outfit. xD) revealing her new bikini. She ran to the ocean and dived in.

Brayden followed in after her, instead of diving, using more of a flopping technique instead of her strategic dive. He resurfaced almost instantly, shaking his dark hair like a wet dog and letting the cool water rush briefly against his warm skin.

Kara dove under again, skimming the bottom of the ocean floor. She saw a few seashells and a scuttling crab. Finally, she found a perfect Conch shell and swam back up with it in her hand. She pressed it to her ear, listening to the sound that reminded everyone of the crashing waves.

Brayden took the brief second while she was distracted by the seashell to let himself appraise her. He reached across to her shoulder and traced his index finger across the strap of her bikini. "This new?" He asked, fighting to keep levelness in his voice.

"Yes..." Kara said, awkwardly. "Why, is the tag still on it?" She asked, trying to look over her shoulder.

"Just a question," He said, his eyebrows coming together as if he was confused.

"Oh." She shrugged, moving her finger around in a circle in the water. She dove back under, standing on her hands.

Brayden sighed, swimming backwards so he was moving farther out into the open ocean.

Kara walked across the ocean floor on her hands, trying not to crush any unsuspecting crabs on the way. She stood up and swam out into the ocean, following some fish.

He watched her, wondering what she was thinking. Suddenly grateful for his wolf form, Brayden realized that he might be able to crop the thought out of Kara's head if they were phased at the same time. He averted his gaze to the sky, now regretting how awkward things had become.

Kara pulled herself out of the water, sitting down on her towel that she had laid out from earlier, when she was out surfing. Now laying on her stomach, she rested her head on her crossed arms and poked her surfboard, letting it fall to the sand.

"You're no fun," He said from farther out into the ocean.

She yawned. "I'm a little tired. I went to go visit Jake and I didn't get home until later..." She walked over to the ocean to splash the cold water on her face, even if the cold only lasted a second.

Not completely buying her excuses, Brayden swam closer to shore, shaking his hair again and realizing that his skin was getting dryer by the second. He sighed, sitting just where the tide licked up to. He stared, squinting, at the sky, wondering why it wasn't raining.

"I think I need an Amp." She announced, out of the blue.

"A guitar amp?" Brayden asked, barely looking out of the corner of his eye.

She sighed, and laughed. "No. The drink. It's loaded with caffeine."

"Caffeine and you don't really mix," He said cautiously.

"It'll keep me awake." Kara said, walking over to her beach bag and pulling out the shorts she was wearing earlier, searching through the pockets for money. "Wanna come with me to the store real quick?" She asked, picking out some bills and a few quarters. "Or you can stay here if you want. It's ok."
