that Bella's getting married to a Cullen? But he's okay, I guess." I
whispered.
"I was wrong." Leah sobbed. "I shouldn't have never
said that. I'm stupid. I didn't know what I was doing." she bit her
fingernail.
"I'll say." Jacob mumbled.
I shot him a glance. He shrugged, and popped a muffin in his mouth.

I tossed a muffin crumb at Jake and turned back to Leah. "Lee, stop beating yourself up about it. Don't listen to Jake. He's being dumb."

I offered Leah a tissue. She took it graciously. "Thanks." She dabbed her eyes, and stared idly down at the floor. "I'm sorry guys. I put you guys through hell when I joined the pack."
"You're being too hard on yourself, Leah." I shook my head. "Nobody wanted to join a pack of werewolves." I sighed, dully.

"Yeah." I said, agreeing with Gen. I wiped off a stray tear rolling down her neck. "If you remember, Jacob didn't wanna join either. Neither did Quil." I looked at them all briefly and turned back to her.

"Oh really? I'm dumb, Kara? You shouldn't be talking." He wiped a crumb off his shoulder.
"Jake, stop being mean. Lee's gone through a lot." I sighed, while drying tears from Leah's face.
"So have I." He mumbled.
I flashed a look outside and gasped. "Guys- quick. We need to get out. There's a vampire outside our door." I faintly whispered, grabbing Leah's weak arm.

"What? That's weird." I grabbed a box of tissues, knowing we'd need them. I pulled Jake and Embry out the door with me.
"I'll go see who it is." Embry said, acting protective.

I stared icily outside the window. "Where's Sam?"
"Oh no." Leah groaned.
"I'm sorry." I whipped around, grabbing another tissue for the fresh batch of tears flowing down Leah's face.

"Sam went out with Jared and Pauly." I answered, leaning my head on Leah's shoulders.

"Oh. We better phase now." I glanced at Leah. "You good to phase, Lee?"

I walked out the door and ran. I ran fast. Like Jake always said, the speed was the best thing. You could run all the way to Canada and never get tired. I ran faster and faster, through the trees and towards the cliffs.
I had been so used to phasing, I barely noticed. The only thing that reminded me is when I began to hear Jacob's thoughts...

I started shaking as I transformed into a wolf. Traveling down- the breeze- felt spectacular. It was basically impossible to keep my thoughts hidden, but I tried to do a good job.
Pickles.
Pickles.
Pickles.
I kept repeating, until it became so easy it became rote.
Jake knew my strategy to keep from expressing my thoughts, and he nodded. I searched around for the hidden vampire. There was a sharp jab at my leg, and I howled, falling down to the ground as the vampire reached its teeth into my skin. I screamed, contacting anyone who could help.
Jake! Leah! Embry! Kara!

Jake! Leah! Kara! Embry! I heard in my head. I recognized the sweet voice as Geniveve's. [sp?]
I panted hard, trotting down the path to where I thought the voice came from.
Gen! I screamed in my head, running as fast as I could go.

I howled out in pain once more, the beautiful vampire reached in to bite. I squirmed, and she missed by an inch. I screamed out again, sending out warnings with my mind.

I pounced, followed by Jake, who mauled the vampire off of Gen. I gently dragged her over to the side and ran to help Jacob.

"No, Jake, no!" I croaked out, thinking it in my head.
The vampire pounced after Kara and Jake, and her teeth sliced Jacob's soft ragged fur. He dropped down unconscious. Leah howled, running over, slashing at the she-vampire.
NOT JAKE! I screamed in my head.

Jake! I screeched in my head, running after the vampiress. Leave Leah alone. I hissed to myself, ramming into the bloodsucker.

I sat motionless next to the unconscious Jake, with Leah, Kara and Embry still viciously fighting. I struggled, cursing myself for getting out so early in the fight. Who was this bloodsucker, anyway?

I didn't know who the vampire was either, or why she suddenly came here.
I howled loudly and rammed into her, forcing her to fall back off the cliff.

Nice job Kara! I thought. Now lets get Jake back before he gets even more hurt. I tried to spring up, whimpering to let Embry know I needed his help. He bound over immediately, and quickly helped me to my paws. We needed help getting Jacob up though. Lets go back to our human forms..I thought.

Good idea. I said to Geniveve. [sp?] I phased back into my human form, standing up on two legs again.
"Jake! Are you OK?" I ran over to him, and helped him back up on his paws.
He phased back into his human self, and I sat him up.

"She bit him." Leah choked out. "Are you okay?"
Jacob moaned. "It....burns."
"Jake!" I ran over, and a large cold teeth mark was embedded in his overly-warm skin. He was twitching, and moaning in pain.
"We need to get him to a vampire. To help suck the venom out." I cried out. "FAST!"

I touched Jake's arm.
"Ow, ow ow!" He cussed.
"Sorry." I said, immediately lifting my hand off him. I ruffled his hair. "Come on, Jake. "
